Explorations In STEM - EL
STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education. A student well-versed and literate in the STEM fields tends to be an innovative and critical thinker. He or she can apply what they’ve learned to real world problems. STEM activities are so incredibly full of learning. It’s the ultimate in hands-on, project-based activities. Students learn by doing! The best part is that STEM is collaborative. The group dynamics you will witness are astounding. Students learn to work together for the good of the group and this makes it a win-win for everyone. There are over 60 STEM projects available to choose from within the course. Your teacher will select 8 STEM projects that you will complete with your class. If you are an OVA virtual student, you will work with your Mentor/Teacher of Record to select 8 STEM projects. STEM projects chosen will be based on the class/student interest and grade level. The majority of supplies required for STEM can be found in your school or home. If special supplies are required, this will be identified in the STEM activity. Examples of STEM supplies include toothpicks, newspaper, cardboard, vinegar, etc.
