AP English Language and Composition
This course provides high school students with college-level instruction in language, rhetoric, and exposition. Students study and write various kinds of analytic and persuasive essays on literary and nonliterary topics. Students become skilled readers of prose written in various periods, disciplines, and rhetorical contexts. Both reading and writing assignments are designed to make students aware of the interaction among a writer's subject and purpose and the audience's expectations, as well as the way in which conventions and language contribute to effectiveness in writing. This course prepares students for the AP English Language and Composition exam by enabling them to read, comprehend, and write about complex texts while developing further communication skills at a college level.
